Varicocele Treatment in Kuwait

A varicocele is an enlargement of the veins inside the scrotum, similar to varicose veins in the leg. It is common in men and usually appears on the left side. Many varicoceles cause no symptoms, but some are linked to testicular pain or heaviness, or to fertility problems. At Kuwaiti German Urology in Hawalli we assess varicoceles and decide whether treatment is needed.

What are the symptoms of a varicocele?

  • A dull ache or heaviness in the testicle that gets worse after standing or exercise
  • Enlarged veins that can be felt above the testicle
  • A smaller testicle in some cases
  • Difficulty conceiving or abnormal semen analysis results

How is it diagnosed?

With a physical examination, confirmed by a scrotal ultrasound with Doppler. If there are fertility concerns, the doctor requests a semen analysis and may add hormone tests.

Does a varicocele need treatment?

Not always. Treatment is usually considered for ongoing pain, for fertility problems with abnormal semen results, or when a testicle is smaller in teenagers. The main treatment is surgery to tie off the enlarged veins, and the doctor chooses the right method for your case.

Who will treat you?

These conditions are managed by the clinic’s urology and andrology team, led by Dr. Ali Mehdi Zadeh, Consultant Urologist and Head of Unit. Meet our doctors.

Frequently asked questions

Is a varicocele dangerous?

Usually not. Many varicoceles cause no symptoms and need no treatment, but they should be assessed if you have pain or fertility problems.

Can a varicocele cause infertility?

It can affect sperm quality in some men, and it is one of the most common treatable causes of male infertility.

Can a varicocele be treated without surgery?

Pain can be eased with rest, supportive underwear and painkillers, but surgery is the treatment that removes the varicocele when the doctor finds it suitable.
