Male Infertility Treatment in Kuwait
Difficulty conceiving is common, and a male factor contributes to a significant share of cases. Early assessment helps identify the cause and choose the right treatment. At Kuwaiti German Urology we assess and treat male fertility and andrology conditions in Hawalli, Kuwait.
What is male infertility?
Infertility is usually defined as not achieving pregnancy after 12 months of regular, unprotected intercourse. Earlier assessment, after about 6 months, is advised if the female partner is 35 or older, or if either partner has known risk factors.
Common causes
- Varicocele (enlarged veins in the scrotum)
- Hormonal disorders
- Infections of the reproductive tract
- Blockages in the ducts that carry sperm
- Ejaculation or erection problems
- Genetic factors and some testicular conditions
- Smoking, obesity, prolonged heat exposure and some medications
In some cases no clear cause is found, even after a full assessment.
How is it assessed?
Assessment usually starts with your medical history and a physical examination, followed by a semen analysis. The doctor may also request hormone tests, an ultrasound scan or other investigations depending on the case. Your doctor decides which tests are right for you, and the results of both partners are reviewed together when needed.
Treatment options
Treatment depends on the cause and may include:
- Lifestyle changes and healthier habits
- Treating infections, if present
- Medication or hormonal treatment when needed
- Surgery for some causes, such as varicocele or certain blockages
- Where appropriate, the doctor may recommend assisted reproduction options in cooperation with specialised centres
When should you see a doctor?
- No pregnancy after 12 months of trying (or 6 months if the female partner is 35 or older)
- A history of testicular problems, previous surgery or genital infections
- Testicular pain or swelling, or erection or ejaculation problems
Who will treat you?
